2002 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Hawley Vineyard *Sold Out!*
SOLD OUT!Our estate vineyard, overlooking Dry Creek Valley, always produces intense, darkly colored wines. The six-foot terraces are east facing, and the vineyard does not receive much late afternoon sun. Our vineyards always have high natural acidity, concentrated flavor and color, and structured tannin. However, the 2002 vintage was one of the most intense wines to come off of our estate. The grapes were crushed and cold soaked for seven days to maximize color extraction. 6% Merlot was blended prior to bottling. 20 months of aging in French oak barrels has added vanilla, spice and smoky flavors. Barrel to barrel racking every three months has clarified the wine and eliminated the need for filtration. Do not be alarmed if there is a layer of sediment on the cork or bottle.
This exceptional wine has melded its intense flavors and opens with incredible fruit along with other complexities that seem to evolve with every sip. Our mountain-grown Cabernet is deep in color with flavors reminiscent of black cherries, currants and blackberries, which are backed by toasty vanillin oak notes and round, chewy tannins.
Color: Deep garnet with a slight brick hue. Earthy aromatics, mushroom and menthol eucalyptus (from nearby grove.) Flavors of black currant, date and fennel are just a few of the components of this delicious cellar-aged wine.
