2009 Reserve Pinot Noir, Green Valley
The grapes for our reserve Pinot Noir come from a one-half acre vineyard in Green Valley which is a cool sub-appellation of the Russian River Valley bounded by Forestville, Sebastopol and Occedental. Green Valley is known for two things, Goldridge soil and fog. The well-drained and chemically balanced soil along with the cool foggy nights provide the ideal conditions for growing exceptional Pinot Noir. A long cool harvest in 2009 gave us additional flavor maturity in the grape without higher sugar content. This helped produce intensely flavored wines without overwhelming alcoholic or diminished acidity. Warmer temperatures in September ensured that the grapes ripened before October rains. Only 33 cases of this wonderful wine were produced. Our reserve Pinot is a wine that just begs to be bottled on it’s own, rather than part of a blend. As happy as we are to share this wine with you, it’s sad to know that this is most likely the first and last time we will taste it. The reserve Pinot Noir expresses delicate aromas of cherry, raspberry and vanilla oak. In the mouth, you get a rich full body with well integrated French oak and a wonderful finish that lingers with hints of toasty vanilla. Light and supple, this wine has a bright acidity that will pair well with lighter dishes, such as seafood or salad. This wine is tasting wonderful with , but will improve with age. Drink within the next 4 years.
