The Hawley Brothers are back with their second vintage of Sauvignon Blanc. In 2009, Austin and I decided it was time for the young blood to start making some of the wines. Also, our dad told us to leave him out of any additional work. Of course, the wine went on to wine Best of Class and a gold medal… The 2010 vintage is even better! We followed techniques I learned working harvest in New Zealand to produce our favorite style of S.B.: crisp, clean and fruity. Kiwi-fruit, honeydew melon and grapefruit mingle with notes of lemongrass. The finish is bright and crisp with tropical fruit that begs for another sip. The 2010 growing season was not an easy one. The cool summer was punctuated with a 110 degree weekend in August that wreaked havoc on many vineyards. The Sauvignon Blanc vineyard in Dry Creek Valley was not burned. We were pleasantly surprised that the clusters that received more sun tasted fruitier and the ones protected by the canopy tasted grassier, but the blend of the two was amazing.
