2011 marks the 3rd vintage of Sauvignon Blanc for The Hawley Brothers. We continued using techniques that Paul learned while working harvest in New Zealand to produce our favorite style of Sauvignon Blanc: crisp, clean and fruity. The 2011 Sauvignon Blanc may be our best yet: the nose is a complex mélange of grassiness, minerality, fig, and apple that follows through to the palate with flavors of green apple and tangelo. 2011 was another trying year for Sonoma County grape growers. The season got off to a slow start; delayed by frost, followed by a cool, wet spring. Then summer never really showed up and remained cool well throughout the growing season. Even though the 2011 crop was moderate, the quality shines through. The alcohol levels are low and acidity bright – which is perfect for Sauvignon Blanc. The cool growing season allowed us to pick at ideal sugar levels while still getting the perfect level of ripe fruit flavors. Drink now, preferably on a warm spring or summer evening.
