2012 Chardonnay, Hoot Owl Creek Vineyard
As head winemaker for Clos Du Bois and Kendall Jackson wineries, my father made Chardonnay from virtually every region of California. He oversaw exponential growth in the wine industry and is largely credited with helping to revolutionize the production scale of premium California wine. The man knows Chardonnay. This is our tenth vintage of Chardonnay, and it is the first time we have made it from the same vineyard twice! After a decade of scouring Sonoma County for just the right fit, we chose this vineyard for its rich varietal character and balanced acidity.
Hoot Owl Creek Vineyard is located at the south end of the Alexander Valley and planted to Robert Young Clone, which was named after the forefather of viticulture in the valley. Aromas of apple and pear are backed by mineral spice, and buttery notes. On the palate, the wine is light and crisp with a rich citrus finish highlighted by vanilla. Barrel fermented in French Oak (25% new) and aged for 9 months before bottling.
