2014 Chardonnay, Hopkins River Ranch
As head winemaker for Clos Du Bois and Kendall Jackson wineries, John Hawley made Chardonnay from virtually every region of California. He oversaw exponential growth in the wine industry and is largely credited with helping revolutionize the production scale of premium California wine. The man knows Chardonnay.
In 2014 we found a new source for our Chardonnay, the Hopkins River Ranch in the Russian River Valley. The cold, foggy climate along the Russian River allows this cool-climate grape to ripen slowly, creating exceptional flavor and preserving the natural acidity. This barrel fermented wine was produced using special techniques borrowed from France to create an elegant wine with complex flavors of citrus, green apple, fig and toasted oak notes, backed by bright acidity and a touch of butter. The intensity of flavor suggests that this wine, as mouth filling and delicious as it is now, will continue to develop and improve for many years to come.
