2015 Viognier, Sonoma County
Our 2015 Sonoma County Viognier is 100% Viognier and is a blend of fruit from our estate vineyard in Dry Creek Valley as well as the McKinney Vineyard in Russian River Valley. The 2015 harvest came early and was one of the smallest crops we have seen in over a decade. This is due to the generally warm winter we had- which persuaded the vines to bud and ripen earlier than usual. The 2013/2014 harvests were simply massive, so by 2015, the vines were in need of a smaller harvest.
We had a slightly different approach to making the Sonoma County Viognier this time and decided that instead of 100% barrel-fermentation, we would ferment a portion of the juice in stainless steel. With the final blend, we found the wine had an extremely balanced acidity and brightness that makes this vintage clean and floral. In its youth, this wine shows aromas of pineapple, lychee and orange blossom This medium-bodied wine has a clean and bright acidity; proudly showing flavors of juicy peach and a hint of honeysuckle. As it ages, hues and notes of honey and vanilla will typically arise.
409 Cases Produced
This wine is completely dry. In production, 50% of this Viognier was Barrel-fermented in neutral oak barrels for two months and put through malolactic fermentation. The other 50% was kept in stainless steel and did not get ML.
