2016 Estate Viognier, Hawley Vineyard

89 Points - California Grapevine Review

Hawley Winery is known for Viognier! Our love for Viognier spans three generations, beginning with Vernon Hawley, John’s father, who fell in love with the variety when he lived in France in the 1960’s. From then on, we have sought out the floral and versatile fruit. Our Estate Viognier was originally planted on our vineyard using some of the first clippings from France, approved by UC Davis, in 1983.
The love continues for our 2016 vintage. Pineapple guava notes on the nose mingle with orange blossom aromatics. This wine didn’t go through secondary fermentation and retains crisp, clean stone fruit notes with citrus hints. Modest alcohol and slightly higher acidity levels will allow it to age exceptionally well over the next few years.
