2017 Estate Merlot, Hawley Vineyard
New release for Wine Club in Spring 2021!
Our popular Estate Merlot is back! This wine is a blend of 76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Franc grown organically on the Hawley estate in Dry Creek Valley. By planting the vines in our rocky hillside ground, we force the vines to toil and produce smaller crops and berries. The small berries give us intense flavor with concentrated tannins and acidity, perfect for aging. We grow three different clones of Merlot on our hillside vineyard. The different clones express slightly different characters and allow us to produce a more complex wine.
A deep, ruby red wine. Aromas of plum and toffee. Flavors of cassis, dried cherry, sweet tobacco, clove and hints of bay and hazelnut. Good tannin structure and a long finish.
Cases Produced: 200
John has always been a big fan of Merlot and says there is nothing wimpy about this variety! This complex wine is reminiscent of a right-bank Bordeaux style blend and the two varieties compliment each other very well.
This wine was aged for 28 months in French oak barrels.
