2017 Reserve Zinfandel, Rockpile
GOLD, 90 points - Orange County Fair
90 Points - CA Grapevine Review
85% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah
The wine itself is dark ruby in color and a robust bouquet of wild strawberry, nutmeg spice and plum greet you in the glass. Flavors of freshly picked blackberry, ripe cherry, cigar box and the slightest hint of cedar are the first of many layers of complexity that unfold as the wine opens up. A very balanced and smooth wine! Pleasant acidity, bold fruit and very little tannin will work together to make this an age worthy wine that we would suggest enjoying at it's peak in 2022-24, and maybe a year or two further.
Additional tasting notes:
"Medium to medium-dark ruby; attractive, deep, ripe intense, briary, blackberry fruit aroma with floral notes; full body; deep, ripe, briary, dark berry fruit flavors with herbal notes, hints of vanilla, and undertones of toasty oak; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. A bit restrained at present, deserving another year or two of bottle aging. Very highly recommended." - CA Grapevine Review, September 2019 Issue
