We sourced the fruit for our 2018 Sauvignon Blanc from the Hopkins River Ranch Vineyard, which is situated in the Russian River Valley. The vineyard grows along the river itself, off of Eastside Road. There are two different blocks of Sauvignon Blanc vines on the ranch, one which grows down by the river and the other which is perched atop a hillside and grows on old, head-trained vines.
The two blocks have a slightly different macro-climate and ripen at different times. Atop the hill, the head trained vines receive lots of sunlight and tend to develop more tropical notes in the fruit. The lower, river-side block spends less time in direct sunlight, ripens slower and the fruit develops with more hints of cool citrus and grass notes.
It is the blend of these two separate blocks on the Hopkins River Ranch that, when combined, make an incredibly well-rounded, more New Zealand style Sauvignon Blanc that has a wealth of aromatics and a very long finish.
